'Der Spiegel' Studied Leaked Cables For Weeks

Several publications writing about the WikiLeaks diplomatic reports had them months in advance. One was the German magazine Der Spiegel, whose Washington correspondents include Gregor Peter Schmitz. He tells Steve Inskeep that reporters have been reading, and discussing what they read since August.

'Le Monde' Publishes Latest WikiLeaks Release

With its release of 250,000 million U.S. diplomatic cables, WikiLeaks has expanded dramatically its efforts to reveal information. The cables range from embarrassing to the potentially dangerous. U.S. Student Convicted Of Murder In Italy Appeals

The American student Amanda Knox, convicted in Italy of murdering her British roommate, started an appeal against her conviction and sentence Wednesday. The judge in the northern town of Perugia will decide whether to accept the defense's request for a complete review of all the evidence and a request for new witnesses. A positive ruling could signal a possible reduction of Knox's 26-year prison sentence.

Summit Aims To Protect Tigers From Extinction

Irish Leader Faces Early Election After Bailout

Prime Minister Brian Cowen resisted pressure to resign immediately after his coalition partner, the Green Party, said it would quit the government and force an early election in January. Cowen said he did not want to delay Ireland's deficit-slashing 2011 budget and the bailout negotiations.
