Germany Hopes Incentive Plan Will Strengthen Its Military

October 29, 2014 • The German defense minister announced plans to increase the pay and benefits of her country's soldiers as a first step to restoring the effectiveness of Germany's military. The state of the German armed forces is an ongoing national scandal after it was revealed most of the country's military aircraft were grounded and German battle tanks are in need of repair. The defense minister says the shortage of military personnel is equally problematic, rendering half of its submarine fleet unusable because there aren't qualified people to operate them.
